Winter Storm Emergencies
In preparation of another large weather system moving into South Dakota we are reminding providers about proper protocols when seeking assistance. If providers experience situations that can’t be resolved through their normal business contacts, there are other resources available if emergency assistance is needed. Whether it's loss of power for an extended period of time, shortage of fuel, food, or medical supplies, or relying on outside services such as municipal water or sewer, the following contacts may be utilized for assistance.
· If the emergency requires an immediate response the provider should call 911.
· If an emergency exists but immediate action is not required the following contacts are available and should be made in that order:
1. Providers should contact their county emergency manager. Below is the website that lists the county point of contact and their telephone number. An attachment is provided that lists county contacts as of 01/22/10.

2. If providers are unable to contact their county emergency manager the State Duty Officer can be reached at 605.773.3231.
3. If Department of Health contact is needed, such as relocating of residents or patients to another site because of the emergency, the following number should be used. M-F 8:00 to 5:00 - 605.773.3356. After hours, weekends, or holidays 1.800.592.1861.
